Top 5 Misconceptions regarding CGI

Advertising has been around for as long as people have been trying to make money out of attracting a wider public. Modern times have created a new type of consumer, a digital consumer. With new technology available everywhere such as web applications, mobile applications, and VR, the advertising channels have expanded and the possibilities of creating awareness are, now, unlimited. As a Digital Creative Agency, working with digital tools, we often come across different misconceptions that people usually hold when deciding whether they should use traditional photography/videography or switch to a newer solution such as CGI.

We have therefore debunked the most common myths when it comes to using CGI in order to advertise your products and services.

#1 It’s too expensive for our (company) budget.

This is one of the most heard misconceptions we have come across. When considering traditional photography, people look at the costs of photography strictly, but they forget the costs of dealing with the product and the rest of all logistics involved. However, by using CGI, you:

- No longer have to hire people to deal with the product, moving / transporting it from the warehouse to a photo-studio / showroom.

- No longer have to hire fitters / builders to fit the product(if the product is something more complex like a sofa / kitchen/bathroom or a different product that needs fitting / mounting / assembling).

- No longer have to hire interior designers to design / arrange and stylise the room-set and props around the featured product.

- No longer have to rent a photo-studio / showroom to create the photos in. Even if you own a showroom already, there is a cost(towards you) in using that space.

- No longer have to pay for a photographer to make the photos.

- And once the photos are made by a photographer, you'll never be able to go back on that product and have it in some other different configurations. You'll have to redo the whole photographic process again at a later time.

- Product deterioration will be a thing of the past(one of the biggest concern for our clients is that they deteriorate the products in this process, leading to more losses on their side).

- Digital 3D models provide consistency across multiple images / digital platforms(unlike photography which often doesn’t look consistent, depending on the conditions in which the photos were taken), helping to create a better brand image that repositions the brand in a higher-end tier.

The whole process of a traditional photoshoot could add up to tens of thousands of pounds / dollars / euros and a lot of wasted time.

The cost is reduced by up to 80% in most cases, when CGI is employed repeatedly, having to easily re-use the 3D assets that were already created digitally. Once the digital assets are created, we can reuse them for your future marketing campaigns. This is done by creating different variations and combinations that match the new season trend with much ease.

#2 The quality is not as good as that of photography.

This is, partly, a subjective aspect and it’s related to the amount of realism that’s put in the project. Just how bad photographers exist, so do bad CGI studios. At Moxels, we strive for the best quality we can offer our clients and our artists aim to achieve an impressive level of realism.

With the right talent and expertise from the right advertising team, your products can be transformed into a real piece of art that many will admire and emotionally connect with.

#3 No control over / hands on the process.

With the rise of the internet of things(#IoT), you can now have full control over the process, right in front of your laptop. Our online project management platform offers full flexibility, interaction, and control over the whole process. This includes:

  • Inviting team members, clients, vendors, etc. to your projects and work together.

  • Discussing strategies with team-members for project planning, all in one place.

  • Assigning tasks to team members based on their expertise or availability.

  • Allowing you to leave direct feedback, at any stage of the process, by commenting and drawing straight on the digital assets(images).

  • Offering unlimited amount of revisions, and chat with our team of specialists 24/7 via email, telephone, and live chat.

  • Gathering your words and images: keep everything that matters to you in one place and turn your ideas into reality.

  • Viewing detailed reports about the status of the projects, resources usage and stay on track.

  • Platform integration on mobile: access projects, complete tasks, catch up on discussions, approve designs.

  • Activity logs to view all project updates: track down any activity that’s happening in the project to keep all the updates at fingerprints.

  • Marking events, setting milestones and managing appointments to stay updated on all deliverables.

  • Storing all your files safely in the Cloud: keep documents, spreadsheets, presentations, design, and resources within your reach.

  • Attaching and sharing files straight from the Cloud(Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive).

#4 The process takes too much time.

Initially, when comparing traditional photography with CGI, the difference between the time required for both of them is relatively small, but the process is more simple if you chose CGI. However, over long periods of time, you can save up a lot of time(and money) since we can reuse the 3D digital assets and deliver your projects much faster.

#5 The process is too complicated.

Let’s first take a look at how the traditional photo shoot takes place. A good example which illustrates that might look like this :

Looks complicated, right? The amount of people and time required makes it a real hustle.

On the other hand, our workflow is much different than that, and you can control the whole process right in front of your laptop. Our strategy revolves around getting to know the customer, their business, and their goals.

Let's have a look:

  1. Vision: The first step in Moxel’s process revolves around getting the “know what your vision is”, what your expected outcomes are.

  2. Brainstorming: The next step concentrates on getting to know you and your business. We facilitate a meeting where we gather the required information(the so called "discovery phase") in order to craft a suitable message and transmit it with the right tone for your audience.

  3. Strategy: The strategy phase involves creating a Brand Audit. This allows us, based on the discovery phase results, to get an idea of what kind of message you want to send out and how the project “might look” like.

  4. Design: The design step is now clear and it’s determined by what your goals are.  It’s not a point of view of what people think it would look better. It’s exactly what your brand needs in order to achieve the desired results. Everything that we design has a reason behind it.

  5. Develop: This is a more technical step where our CGI artists take care of developing, creating and integrating your product into a scenario.

  6. Continue: From here on, we repeat this process in different variations. We tweak details in order to custom-create your portfolio of varied products and services.

If you’re interested to find out more, you can read about our strategy and workflow, here.

Our process is designed so that we get a grasp of who you are and where do you want to go. It requires less effort from our clients compared to a traditional, old-fashioned photo shoot.

Final thought.

Traditional photography still finds its purpose in a lot of fields and it will never be completely replaced. However, new technology has made it possible to get very realistic results with CGI at a relatively low-cost and in a much more simple way. Why not choose the best option for your company?
